2018 Valery Magnum

Right Bank Bordeaux-style Blend

Valery is named for the patron saint of wine in the St. Emilion region that inspired it. We started with old vine Merlot from a stony block in Boushey Vineyard and added complex, aromatic Cabernet Franc from iconic Champoux Vineyard. The result is a balanced and complex wine with the elegance and ethereal perfume for which this blend of two of Washington’s best varieties is known.

"This is a dark-hued and large-scaled vintage for Valery, with deep dark red fruits—black cherry and plum--thyme, bay leaf, bittersweet chocolate, licorice, and crushed stone. Exceptionally rich and seamless on the palate, with a silky texture, tons of dark cherry and currant coulis, tobacco, anise seed, and crushed herbs that carry on through the finish. Despite the depth on the palate, a lively acidity really keeps this wine well balanced and food-friendly. Like all of the 2018s, this will have a long life ahead in the cellar. 94 points - Jeb Dunnuck "The Merlot-dominated 2018 Valery (there's 11% Cabernet Franc) comes from two great vineyards, Boushey and Champoux, and spent 20 months in 28% new French oak. Deep ruby/plum-hued, with a great nose of black cherries, plums, dried herbs, and violets, it hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, a round, expansive texture, soft tannins, and a great finish. This ripe, plump, sexy Merlot has loads of character and will keep for a decade. It has a certain Pomerol-like elegance, and I’m a fan."
