2021 Valery

Right Bank Bordeaux-style Blend

Valery is named for the patron saint of wine in the St. Emilion region that inspired it. We started with old vine Merlot from a stony block in Boushey Vineyard and added complex, aromatic Cabernet Franc from iconic Champoux Vineyard. The result is a balanced and complex wine with the elegance and ethereal perfume for which this blend of two of Washington’s best varieties is known.

“Expressive aromatics featuring deep red raspberry coulis and boysenberry, fresh loam, toasted herbs, bittersweet chocolate, and hints of chalk dust. The palate is supple and quite concentrated, with deep plum, muddled huckleberries, crushed stone, black tea, hints of candied orange peel and a pleasing savory minerality on the finish. 96 points, Owen Bargreen "The 2021 Avennia ‘Valery’ is a Right Bank inspired blend of 84% Merlot with the remainder Cabernet Franc from the Boushey and Champoux Vineyards. On the nose this takes on beautiful violet rose petal tones that combine with freshly tilled loamy soils, cigar box, anise and shades of coffee grounds with dense dark fruits. The palate is soft and seamless as this deftly glides throughout the drinking experience. Full-bodied, with elegant tannins, this is a totally stunning Merlot that is one of the finest you will taste in Washington State. Drink 2023-2040."
