"The 2022 Avennia Estate Red Wine is an intricately structured blend of 42% Cabernet Franc, 38% Merlot, and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged for 20 months in 62% new French oak. It immediately captivates with an aromatic profile of wild blackberry, red currant, and crushed violets, intertwined with nuances of fresh sage, black olive, and crushed stone. On the palate, this Red Mountain beauty delivers remarkable depth, showcasing a core of dark plum, mountain sage, and hints of iron-laced earth. The texture is both powerful and refined, with gripping yet polished tannins that underscore its structure. Swirling in the glass reveals additional layers of cedar spice, dark chocolate, and a whisper of smoked herbs, adding to its complexity. The wine’s mineral-driven backbone is unmistakable, reflecting the intensity of its terroir while maintaining impeccable balance. Better in 2026. A tad over 200 cases produced. Highly recommended and editor’s choice." - Jeremy Young
